Maybe the local governments can set up one of those exchange programs to provide an incentive for children to turn in those deadly writing implements. Turn in a pencil, get an iTunes gift card! I'm sure most politicians would rather have the children learn to buy prepackaged music than learn how to write and think...

Is this where they got the expression:"Get the lead out!"?
Or "Better dead than lead"?
I'm goin' retro here...

I actually had a lead pencil...had a steel sheath, and one of those screwcaps that locked it, or let it retract...I donated it to a museum before I found out it was worth a couple of hundred bucks!!!

Get the lead out? ;-)
http://www.officemuseum.com/pencil_history.htm
"Lead pencils, of course, contain no lead. The writing medium is graphite, a form of carbon. Writing instruments made from sticks cut from high quality natural graphite mined in England and wrapped in string or inserted in wooden tubes came into use around 1560."
That's what we get for importing our pencils from China! ;-)

What about Mechanical Pencils and the lead refill or are they graphite refills and if it is graphite then why don't we change the name to graphite refills and graphite pencils. The word lead should be banned from all pencil products. This is of the utmost importance we do not want children to be afraid to pick up a pencil not knowing for sure if it is lead or graphite. :~D
